New Features of Adobe Photoshop CS5

Adobe is unveiling their newest version of Photoshop on April 12th, 2010 after less than two years in Creative Suite 4. Adobe also announced that the new CS will include a 64-bit version for Mac OS X where previously only their Windows version supported 64-bit. Here are a few sneak peaks at the power and speed of Photoshop CS5.

Content-Aware Fill

As demonstrated in the video above content-aware fill can make quick work of removing large and small objects as well as filling in what’s missing in your panoramic photo.

When I first saw this I can honestly say my jaw dropped. It’s hard to believe that Adobe has developed the technology to achieve this level of intricacy in photo manipulation. While it may not be 100% perfect, it will get you in the right direction and save you hours upon hours slaving behind your monitor(s).

Puppet Warp

The puppet warp tool is a neat feature that allows you to treat objects like they were built in 3D modeling software, giving them a wireframe. Also the puppet warp tool will help you keep your photos from becoming distorted while making adjustments to them.

Better Edge Detection

Big upgrade to the masking tool, giving you better edge detection.

“Just Do It”

The “Just Do It” features are just small tweaks that the Adobe team has made to make tasks in Photoshop more simple(I wonder what Nike thinks of Adobe’s new slogan).

Some of these new features include:

Apply to all when exiting out of Photoshop you can choose whether or not you would like to save all open files
Straighten button, quick way to straighten an image
Less steps to save a 16-bit files as JPG
Multi layer opacity control
Setting default styles per variable(drop shadow, stroke, etc.)*
Enabling or disabling multi-touch gestures*
Save to original folder*

My buddies and I are going on a cross country extravaganza from Troy, NY to Long Beach, CA. My good friend Frank Merola got a job offer doing engineering type of things for a company South of LA. So we are driving with him on his journey across the good old US of A. We are stopping in DC, Nashville, Memphis(quick stop), Dallas, Santa Fe, The Grand Canyon(quick stop), Las Vegas(two nights) and ending in Long Beach, California. I would love to meet up with anyone who I follow or follows me on Twitter for a beer in the listed cities.

All are welcome to attend my grandfather Gerald F. Malone’s service tomorrow(Wednesday) from 4-7 in Chatham, NY. Please don’t feel obligated to be there, he wouldn’t want anyone to drop what ever plans they had for him, it’s just the way he was. We are asking that no one sends flowers but instead if you wanted to do something please make a donation in his name to Rails to Trails Conservancy: Duke Ellington Bldg., 2121 Ward Ct. N W, Fifth Floor, Washington DC 20037(Railstotrails. org). Rails to Trails is a non-profit that raises money to turn old railroad trails into bike paths.
